Purpose and Role of the Program:
The program allows individuals or families (Donors) to honour loved ones by purchasing a memorial plaque for installation on a designated bench.
Plaques serve as a lasting tribute, contributing to the beauty and accessibility of the trails while supporting FGTA’s mission to preserve and enhance the Glengarry Trails.
FGTA reserves the right to select bench locations based on availability, trail needs, and aesthetic considerations. Donors may request preferences, but final placement is at FGTA’s discretion.
Each plaque is typically 4×6 inches (or similar), made of durable, weather-resistant material (e.g., engraved brass or aluminum).
Content is limited to the loved one’s name, birth/death dates, and a short inscription (up to 50 characters total, subject to approval). No offensive, political, or commercial content is permitted.
Are designed to seat a specified number of people (e.g., 3-seater). A maximum of four (4) plaques are allowed per seated person section to maintain bench usability and appearance.
Example: For a 3-seater bench, this allows up to twelve (12) plaques total, grouped in sets of four per section.
If a bench reaches capacity, FGTA will direct new applications to other benches or waitlist them.
The cost is $750 CAD per plaque, payable in full at application.
This fee covers plaque production, installation, and basic maintenance for the initial term.
Payments are non-refundable and considered a charitable donation to FGTA (receipt provided upon request).
Fees may be adjusted for future renewals based on material costs and inflation.
The plaque will remain on the bench for an initial term of five (5) years from the installation date.
At the end of the term, the Donor (or their designated contact) will be notified and given the opportunity to renew for another five (5)-year block at the then-current fee.
Renewal must be completed within 60 days of notification; otherwise, the plaque may be removed to make space for new memorials.
If not renewed, the plaque will be returned to the Donor (if requested and shipping paid) or respectfully archived by FGTA.
FGTA will perform routine maintenance on benches and plaques, including cleaning and minor repairs, as part of trail upkeep.
However, plaques are exposed to outdoor elements, and FGTA is not responsible for damage from weather, vandalism, wildlife, or other causes. No warranties are provided on plaque longevity.
Donors release FGTA from any liability for loss, damage, or injury related to the bench or plaque.
FGTA may relocate or remove benches/plaques for trail improvements, safety, or other reasons, with notice to the Donor where possible.

Applications are reviewed for completeness and content appropriateness. FGTA may reject any application at its sole discretion.
Installation typically occurs within 3-6 months of approval, weather permitting.
These terms may be updated by FGTA with notice on the website. Continued participation implies acceptance of changes.
This program is governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada.
Personal information is collected solely for program administration and protected under privacy laws.
Disputes will be resolved through mediation before any legal action.
By participating, Donors help sustain the trails while creating meaningful memorials.
