Trail Maintenance

The Glengarry Trails are a cherished community asset, a beautiful 15 km all-season recreational trail system in the heart of North Glengarry Township. Open year-round for hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, walking, and more, these trails stay welcoming and accessible thanks to our dedicated volunteers.

The Friends of Glengarry Trails Association (FGTA) is a volunteer-run, charitable nonprofit organization. We rely on the time, energy, and generosity of community members like you to keep the trails in great condition for everyone.

What Our Volunteers Do

Our hardworking volunteer teams handle a wide range of essential maintenance tasks throughout the year, including:

  • Grooming the trails — especially in winter for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and year-round to keep surfaces even and safe
  • Removing felled trees and branches after storms or natural wear
  • Clearing brush and invasive growth to maintain clear pathways and protect the natural environment
  • Cutting grass and trimming vegetation along trail edges and open areas
  • General upkeep by repairing minor damage, refreshing signage, maintaining boardwalks and small bridges, and ensuring the trails remain clean, safe, and enjoyable for all users

This ongoing work is possible because of our volunteers’ passion and commitment. No paid staff maintains these trails; it is all community-powered!

Why It Matters

Your support, whether through volunteering, becoming a member, or donating, helps preserve this natural treasure for families, outdoor enthusiasts, and future generations. The trails connect us to nature, history, and each other, and they stay beautiful because people care.
