Trail Maintenance

On August 16th a group of volunteers tackled the Gary Fen Boardwalk (off lakeshore Rd)  and gave it a good clean up.

During the same week, Pierre attended the Green trail portion between Marcoux Rd and the Gary Fen trail.

We wish to thank all volunteers for the great work they have done!

Bottle Gentian

Have you seen it yet?

A small number grow beside the green road trail between Alexandria and county road 45.

The bottle gentian blooms in August/September and has five blue, fused petals. Because this flower retains the bud shape it takes the strength of a bumble bee to pry it open and reach the nectar inside. After pollination, the petals dry into a papery wrapping containing many winged seeds. At maturity the wind will disperse them.
